Quotum and Quotio, compared honestly
Quotio is a free, open-source command center for AI coding accounts: it runs a local proxy, points your coding agents at it, and shows the quota behind each account. If that is what you need, it is the right choice. Quotum does a narrower job, without a proxy: knowing which of your accounts can still take the work, and opening that account in one gesture — while leaving every other tool's sign-in exactly as it found it.
Quotio checked on
(README, macOS documentation, changelog and code at commit e1941cd; version
0.33.0 at its tag). We did not run Quotio; what is below is what its documentation and its
code say. Quotio changes often: its repository is the reference.
What Quotio does best
- It is free and open source, under the MIT license, installed with
brew install --cask nguyenphutrong/tap/quotio[1]. - It runs a local proxy, CLIProxyAPI, and configures Claude Code, Codex CLI, Amp, OpenCode and Factory Droid to use it, with failover between accounts[1][2].
- It reaches beyond the Mac app: a command-line tool that also runs on Linux, and an iPhone companion still being tested[1].
- It runs on macOS 14 or later[1]. Its latest stable release, 0.33.0, dates from ; 1.0 betas have followed since[3].
What Quotum adds
- Measurement and action on the same account. On a Claude or Codex account, Quotum opens that account's own copy of the desktop app, opens claude.ai or chatgpt.com in its Chrome profile, and pins a terminal to it[4].
- Other tools' sign-ins left as they are. Quotum reads the sign-ins other
tools keep and writes none of them. Quotio writes Codex's
auth.jsonandconfig.tomlwhen it points Codex at its proxy. - Requests that say they come from Quotum. Quotio presents itself to
Anthropic as
claude-code/2.1.0and to OpenAI as “Codex Desktop”. Quotum makes one public exception: the two requests of a Codex account signed in with a personal access token. - No usage data sent from the app. Quotio 0.33.0, its latest stable release, embeds PostHog; the 1.0 betas removed it.
- Twenty-five tools and twenty-three languages, with nothing tracked until you choose a tool. Quotio's interface comes in four languages.
Quotum reads twenty-five tools: Claude, Codex, Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf), Cursor, Warp, Codebuff, Augment, opencode, Grok, Grok Bot, GitHub Copilot, Kiro, Cline, Kimi Code, Kilo Code, Nous Portal, JetBrains AI, Factory Droid, Muse Code, Antigravity, Doubao, Alibaba Model Studio, Amp, Z.ai and MiniMax. Claude, Codex, Windsurf and Cursor can hold several accounts each.

When to pick which
- Pick Quotio if you want it free, want to read the code, want a local proxy that spreads your agents' requests across accounts, need a command-line tool on Linux, or run macOS 14 or 15.
- Pick Quotum if you juggle several Claude or Codex accounts and want to open the right one — app, browser profile, terminal — from the line that tells you it has room, without any other tool's sign-in being rewritten.

FAQ
What is Quotio?
A free, open-source Mac app, under the MIT license, that manages CLIProxyAPI, a local proxy for AI coding agents, and shows the quota of the accounts behind it. It requires macOS 14 or later; its command-line version also runs on Linux.
Is there a Quotio alternative?
Several. Quotum is one, for Macs on macOS 26: it tracks twenty-five tools without a proxy and without rewriting their sign-ins, and on a Claude or Codex account it opens the right desktop app, Chrome profile or terminal. Others are compared on our usage trackers page.
Does Quotio change Codex's settings?
When you ask it to configure Codex for its proxy, it writes Codex's auth.json and config.toml. Quotum writes neither.
Does Quotum do everything Quotio does?
No. It runs no proxy, does not configure your agents, has no command-line tool or iPhone app, and requires macOS 26. What it adds is acting on the account it has just measured, and leaving other tools' sign-ins as they are.
