Several accounts

Work and personal accounts, side by side on one Mac

A client's Claude Max account, your own, a ChatGPT account for Codex: each switch means /logout, /login, a browser that opens on the wrong profile, and a session that loses its context. Quotum keeps each Claude and Codex account in its own space — its own copy of the desktop app, its own Chrome profile, a terminal pinned to it — and shows how much each one has left before you pick it.

How the tools handle several accounts on their own

That works, and it is a lot of plumbing to remember at the moment you just want to get on with the job.

What Quotum does for each account

When you add a Claude or Codex account, Quotum creates a copy of the Claude or ChatGPT desktop app for it, in ~/Applications, with its own data folder, and opens it so you sign in once. From then on, open the account in the menu bar panel to:

  • Switch to the app — that account's own copy, already signed in;
  • Open claude.ai or chatgpt.com in the account's Chrome profile;
  • Pin my terminal here — a new terminal window where Claude Code or the Codex CLI runs on that account's configuration and picks up the last conversation. Terminal, iTerm2, kitty, Alacritty and WezTerm are supported.
A Claude account opened: Switch to the app, Open claude.ai, Open the Chrome profile, Pin my terminal here, and Quit the app.
Panel of 320 × 563 points, at actual size.

And above all of this, each account's usage: its five-hour and weekly windows, when each resets, and how old the figure is, so that you open the account that can still take the job. Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) and Cursor accounts are listed side by side too; Warp, Codebuff, Augment, opencode and Grok show the account you are signed in to.

Two limits, said plainly. Opening a Chrome profile works with Google Chrome only, and not while Chrome is already running: Quotum then tells you so instead of opening the wrong profile. And Quotum does not change the account a tool is signed in to: it writes none of their credentials.

What the providers' terms say

Several accounts raise the question of bans, so here is what the terms we read actually say, quoted, on :

Neither text, in the versions we read, forbids holding several accounts of your own. Both forbid sharing an account with someone else, and Anthropic's policy targets the use of several accounts to get around its limits or a ban. Quotum does not change what these terms allow, and it promises nothing on their behalf. It also reads each provider's quota in a way they do not provide for, a risk that is yours: it is set out on the pricing page and in the legal notice.

FAQ

Can I have multiple Claude Code accounts on the same computer?

Yes. Anthropic's documentation says to give each account its own configuration directory with CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR. Quotum does this for you: each Claude account gets its own copy of the desktop app and a terminal pinned to its configuration.

How do I switch accounts in Claude Code?

Type /logout, then /login with the other account. To keep both signed in, run each one with its own CLAUDE_CONFIG_DIR, which is what a terminal pinned by Quotum does.

How do I switch accounts in the Codex CLI?

Run codex logout, then codex login. codex login status shows the active method. Each Codex configuration lives under its own CODEX_HOME.

Can multiple people use one Claude Code subscription?

Not under Anthropic's Consumer Terms, which forbid sharing your login or making your account available to anyone else. OpenAI's Terms of Use say the same of ChatGPT accounts.

Is having multiple Claude accounts bannable?

The terms we read on October 2, 2026 do not forbid holding several accounts of your own, but Anthropic's Usage Policy forbids using several accounts to circumvent its limits or a ban. We cannot promise how a provider will judge a given case.
